Punjab: Phagwara SHO Suspended For Kicking Poor Street Vendor’s Vegetable Basket (WATCH VIDEO)

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta initiated the action SHO (City) Phagwara, Navdeep Singh, as he was seen in the video kicking the basket of a vegetable vendor. A Station House Officer in Punjab was on Wednesday suspended after a video showing him kicking a vegetable basket of a street vendor went viral on social media.

Informing about his decision to suspend the SHO, the DGP later in a tweet said “such misbehaviour will not be tolerated at any cost and those who indulge in it will have to face serious consequences”.

“Absolutely shameful and unacceptable. I have suspended SHO Phagwara. Such misbehaviour will not be tolerated at any cost and those who indulge in it will have to face serious consequences,” he wrote.

Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur said the SHO (City) Phagwara has been suspended with immediate effect after a video came to the fore in which he was seen damaging the property of a street side vegetable vendor. The cop was heavily criticised on Twitter for his inhuman behaviour against poor street vendors who are in a pitiable shape financially due to Covid restrictions and lockdown. 



“We did the verification (of the video) and found out during the preliminary inquiry that the incident is of Phagwara. Looking into the seriousness of the matter, the SHO (City) Phagwara has been suspended immediately. Further investigation will be carried out against him,” she added.
