Heavy Rain in Himachal Pradesh Causes Flooding, Landslides, and Power Outages

Heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh has caused widespread flooding, landslides, and power outages. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in 10 districts of the state, including Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, and Una. The IMD has also forecast heavy rain in isolated areas of Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Kinnaur districts.

The heavy rain began on July 8 and continued through the night, causing widespread flooding and damage. In Kullu district, several villages were flooded and people had to be evacuated to safer places. In Shimla district, a landslide blocked the National Highway 5, disrupting traffic for several hours. The rain also damaged several roads and bridges, and disrupted power supply in several areas.

The IMD has advised people to be cautious and avoid venturing into areas prone to landslides and flooding. The state government has also put its disaster management machinery on alert and is providing relief to the affected people.

  • The heaviest rain has been reported in Kullu district, where some areas have received more than 100 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.

  • The IMD has forecast that the rain in Himachal Pradesh will continue for the next few days. However, the intensity of the rain is expected to decrease after today.
